Key Elements of Hotel Seegarten Renovation

TLDR:

Key points:

  • Designer Werner Aisslinger renovated Hotel Seegarten in Germany
  • Renovation focused on nature-inspired elements like hydroponics and locally sourced materials

The renovation of Hotel Seegarten in Germany’s Sauerland region by designer Werner Aisslinger focused on incorporating nature-inspired elements into the interiors. Owned by TV chef Olaf Baumeister, the boutique hotel underwent a transformation that included the use of hydroponics and locally sourced materials like wood and terrazzo to reflect the surrounding nature. Baumeister’s passion for using local produce in his cooking also influenced the design, creating a “nature-loving” concept for the guest rooms and public areas.

The design team, inspired by the hotel’s location overlooking Sorpesee lake, aimed to create a friendly and close-to-nature atmosphere by using materials in their purest form. Terrazzo and wood were the main materials used throughout the scheme, representing the pebble beaches and trees of the surrounding area. Other elements like curtains, carpets, plants, and rattan screens were chosen to complement these materials and add tactile surfaces to the interior.

The hotel’s wellness area features custom-made furniture designed by Aisslinger, including flat and curved rattan screens that enhance privacy when needed. Furniture from various design brands, like Cappellini and Moroso, was also used throughout the hotel. Local materials and regional manufacturers were prioritized to reduce the project’s carbon footprint and support the community.

Overall, the renovation of Hotel Seegarten reflects a modern, casual, and nature-focused design that aims to promote wellbeing. The incorporation of hydroponics, locally sourced materials, and custom-designed furniture adds a unique touch to the boutique accommodation, making it a sustainable and nature-loving retreat for guests.
